End of a Project and Some Much Needed R&R

Posted on December 23, 2023December 23, 2023 by Lou

This past week has seen us finishing our December project, having a last supper and saying farewell to new friends and taking a trip to the coastline of Florida for some much needed R&R. God provided again with the people we got to meet and work with this past month. Many much needed tasks were accomplished to get the camp ready for its annual Christmas event when they host foster care kids. Its a three day event which we will be fortunate to witness this year. There will be a special ribbon cutting of the new foster home which will house twenty-four children and their house parents. Many heartfelt prayers have been said over this house. We especially pray for the lives of each person who enters those doors, that they will experience healing where there needs to be healing, a sense of belonging rather than rejection and an overwhelming love that shines through every person they encounter. The ribbon cutting will happen on the 28th so T and I will get a few pictures. I may not update straight away as we will be travelling the next day and for several days there after to our new destination in central Florida.

Our time away this week saw us staying in two very different locations. The first couple of days we stayed in an eclectic style but historic Bed and Breakfast in Santa Rosa Beach. It was in a great location for T and I to be able to walk to restaurants and the beach. Copper was not allowed on the beaches there without a permit. As we were not residents of the area they did not offer a temporary permit. It was really okay because it gave us some time away from our fur baby and there were plenty of trails to still take Copper on his favourite walkies. We rounded out our trip by staying in another historic building but this time an Inn that was more like a classy Old Florida Style hotel. It was also a great location for exploring the area but did not offer a free breakfast. Out of the two accommodations I preferred the first one. I really like the personal touches you receive when staying in a Bed and Breakfast and could make cups of tea in our room which was an added bonus! The weather was chilly until Friday but we made the most of it by watching lots of Christmas movies when we weren’t out exploring, ate lots of fresh seafood especially fish tacos and fish n chips and got to rest and do nothing. Mission accomplished! I have to admit I didn’t want to leave the beach yesterday but thankful for the opportunity to put my toes in the sand and to hear the sound of the sea again. I guess I came back recharged, because today I went through our RV like a tornado and downsized some things lol. Hoping each of you who reads this has a wonderful Christmas- love me.

Our December project started with the joy of meeting up again with friends we first connected with in December last year. This time it was only for several hours over some Mexican food, but it was so good to see them.
T working on installing many of the new shower doors for the foster care home.
This month I was Christmas decorating.
We visited another farm that had some free range friendly pigs!
Our fun and very hardworking group we had the privilege of serving with this month. Represented here are cooks, decorators of the painting and Christmas kind, carpenters doing trim work, toilet and sink fitting and much HVAC work.
Drone footage of the newly renovated foster care home.
When not on the beach we visited several state parks this week. Eden Gardens State Park was our favourite because of all the tall trees, flowers and history.
Still a tree hugger!
T wanted a pic so I obliged.
Cool Lighthouse in Port St Joe. We did not attempt to climb the stairs. Just looking at it made me feel claustrophobic!
Panama City Dog Beach. Really the only dog friendly beach in the area. Copper loved it here and got the zoomies!
More of Copper experiencing the waves and the sand between his paws.
Sandy paws also calls for sandy noses!
Christmas Apalachicola style.
Even prettier and unusual at night.
There is much dune restoration taking place on the beaches
I liked the message of this sign while visiting a small education center just off St Georges Island
“What if I had never seen this before?”
Great lunch spot to have a picnic. The last day of our R&R was the warmest. We walked over 8 miles taking in the sun, surf and beach.
Finally it was warm enough to get the toes out!
Thankful for Gulf County and so many dog friendly beaches.
Merry Christmas to each of you from Florida.
