Bittersweet

Posted on October 27, 2023 by Lou

A few days ago we left our beautiful temporary home in the mountainous area of North Georgia. We were there just over three weeks, but its amazing how within a short amount of time you can get used to a place. Often it really is because of the people you meet and in Toccoa Falls we met some people that really welcomed us in with open arms, that included us in their devotional time on Monday mornings or with events going on on Campus during homecoming and invited us into their homes for a wonderful meal. We got to reconnect with two couples we had met earlier on in the year during our time in Texas and Oklahoma on campus and by crossing the state line into South Carolina. I personally found I continued my love of the mountains and so many waterfalls! That really is saying a lot for a girl who has always loved and grew up by water of the sea/ocean variety. I feel like our cups were overflowing when we said our “see ya laters” and gave our last hugs.

We travelled two days to get to where we are now in the panhandle of Florida. We took a chance and stayed half way down at a Loves RV stop. This concept is pretty new and is normally attached to the Love Travel Stops. We didn’t know what to expect, but the location sounded convenient and safer than parking at a Walmart or Cracker Barrell which was our other option. Having fans and running the air conditioning drowned out most of the truck and interstate noise and we definitely took advantage of the free restrooms and showers as well. Full hook ups were available at every site but we decided not to utilize the sewer as we were only going to be there one night.

We made it to our new camp just after midday yesterday and are settled in and eagerly awaiting on the other couple to arrive that we will be serving with this month. They have a camp dog here by the name of Bullet. Copper and him got to play this morning after we returned from devotional time and a tour of the camp. The two dogs completely wore each other out, chasing and exploring. Copper was lying on the floor for awhile trying to cool down and has now retreated under the table near my feet. I think its going to be a good couple of months here. Copper has met his match in a new friend and the staff seem very happy we are here to help, especially as T and the other guy like carpentry work. Right now the camp is preparing for one of their biggest events of the year which is a large women’s retreat, so we will be helping them put the final touches on things for the ladies arrival next weekend.

I am so thankful that as we are still far enough north we are seeing Fall colours on the trees and expecting cooler temperatures. I don’t necessarily have a love of Florida. I find the swampy areas to be kinda ugly if I am honest and its quite flat. I am finding, being out on the road and changing locations so often, my views on many things are expanding. Maybe these next several months will change my mind….

Another beautiful waterfall!
And a very deep gorge.

So glad we got to meet up with these two in Clemson for church and a long brunch.
These two love our furbaby and cooked bacon especially for him.
