Christmas this year will look a little different. It will be our first year out on the road when we will not be travelling back to spend time with family and friends. We are not cold weather RVers so it was either head back to south Texas, make our way out west or head further south on the route God already had us on this year. We chose the latter. Thankfully, where ever we are the reason for the season doesn’t change. We can still go to church and sing Christmas carols, experience Christmas lights, put up a small tree and nativity scene, share a meal with new friends and study this season of Advent re-reading the Christmas story together. I am not sure if I will make sausage rolls or a roast dinner this year. T and I might eat something completely different like we did a few years ago with his mom and brother when we visited an Indian restaurant in north OKC on Christmas day and ate some delicious, but very non traditional cuisine. What mattered that day was our time together and the laughs we had. T and I haven’t given each other gifts in a few years, enjoying the process of buying and giving to others instead. This year we have planned a short trip before Christmas where we will leave the RV behind and stay at a couple of bed and breakfasts’ closer to the coast of Florida. I am excited for a few days of non RV living and the possibility of a longer shower or even taking a bath! Our life on the road has taught us to appreciate the luxury of the smallest things when we can experience them.
I know not everyone is looking forward to Christmas this year. Some of you have experienced heart breaking loss, for others including ourselves relationships are not what we would like them to be, so the holidays can ultimately shine a light on all that seems to be broken. Whatever the reason might be for sadness this year I pray each of us can still see the goodness of God and the hope we have in the gift of Jesus. Love to each of you- Lou
P.s I normally love listening to the Drummer Boy especially the King and Country version while T has always loved the Christmas Canon by Trans Siberian Orchestra or Faeries by Manheim Steam Roller this time of year. They are still some of our favourites’ but have found ourselves really enjoying Glorious by King and Country and Oh Holy Night by Joshua Aaron this holiday season. What songs/carols are you finding yourself putting on repeat this year?
