Hounds of the Baskerville and Other Goings On

Posted on January 29, 2024February 5, 2024 by Lou

This past week had me waking up several nights hearing the farm dogs doing their job! They sounded like they were out to attack whatever predator was lurking in the dark, which is a good thing because their purpose is to protect the chickens, emu and other farm animals from the Bobcats, Coyotes and any other actor out looking for prey! I am not sure exactly what transpired those couple of nights, but know they were vigilant at defending their farm friends for a while. As I lie in bed hearing the constant barking realising I wasn’t going back to sleep until things had calmed down I thought about how we are constantly in a spiritual battle and God only knows how many times His angels have fought for us and we don’t even know it. How often do I get up in the morning and put on the Armour of God in preparation for the battle ahead that day? That thought has stayed with me since. I have had several conversations on it and have heard many testimonies from the ladies in the program we have been supporting whose lives testify that spiritual warfare is real! We were trusted with three of the ladies stories as a group this week during our devotional/free time and also were privileged to have attended a special family day where we witnessed more of what the ministry does to help women heal from addiction. It has been a life changing experience to be here. God truly transforms lives and somewhere along my life’s path so far I had forgotten that. Thankful!

Other goings on this past week included a group outing to see Mark Lowrey and friends. Of course we stopped to eat Mexican on the way to the venue. It was so good to laugh! There is nothing politically correct about Mark Lowrey which was refreshing and I had no idea that he sang for years with the Gaither’s a well known gospel group. On Wednesday night we did breakfast for dinner and one of our group successfully cooked up an Emu egg for us to try. Did you know one Emu egg is the equivalent to twelve regular chicken eggs? I ate a little bit in my breakfast burrito not feeling completely adventuresome. A Emu egg is definitely lighter in colour and looks more like rice when cooked. Overall not bad, but I preferred the regular scrambled egg T had cooked up with onions and peppers. This week was about work, but also many conversations over meals, laughing, crying and praying together. Three weeks pass by so quickly. We will be moving on to our next destination very soon.

We got to see and spend a few days with an old Army friend of T’s who also was our best man at our wedding.
T got to tinker with some of his favourite things!
The never ending pile of donations. The ladies work was never done.
A gift reminding me of Psalm 91:11
The farm chickens torturing Copper. Look closely and you may see him peering out the window
Emu egg nearly ready to eat.
After a sweaty day at the thrift store we were gifted by the farm manager with some cacti planted in beautiful Emu egg shells.
Funny guy!
