Hi there! This last couple of weeks has seen T and I continuing with construction help, getting plenty sweaty and dirty! I have found mixing up and chugging some electrolytes through out the morning on the days we work is helping me make it until lunch. I was finding drinking water just wasn’t enough in the muggy Texas climate this year and I was having bouts of light headiness. After lunch I look forward to a nice cool shower and a clean change of clothes. This has been my new routine the last few weeks but honestly I am happy to be an assistant to T, cleaning up when needed, holding something in place while he secures something to a wall or while cutting a piece of wood. I have also been using an air nailer to help secure and been using a sander a lot to smooth the wood before we place it in his final position. Today we picked up piles of construction material and carted it off to the burn pile which we found already lit. Being the Brit that I still am I thought it would have been fun if there had been an effigy depicting Guy Fawkes that I could have thrown the wood at as we hurled it into the fire, but alas its not November the 5th its still June so I will have to save that thought and have it as imagination therapy for now.
T and I did some exploring of the area on Friday. We found many places are still struggling from all the rain that has fallen in the past couple of months so our first destination to Davy Crockett’s National Forest was short lived as the trails, especially by the lake were very muddy, so we continued on to a nearby state park. We found, although it was open, almost all the roads except near the entrance were closed so really no accessibility to the trails, so we moved on again and finally found a winner! We had made the choice to take Copper on our exploring so was happy to find a place that was dog friendly very close to the state park called Caddo Mounds State Historic Site. We did not take any pictures while we were there but it was a welcome and interesting stop. Its located funnily enough in Cherokee County Texas if you ever find yourself in that area of East Texas.
On Saturday T and I celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary by driving an hour south towards Houston to enjoy a cozy Mediterranean meal for lunch. Whilst in a bigger town we took care of some errands with a stop at Lowes and then HEB to pick up a few groceries. As we were travelling along the main highway we spied a huge statue that ended up being of Sam Houston. I took a picture, but in hind sight we should have stopped and gone back to really understand the magnitude of its size. It was definitely Texas big! Upon our return to home that’s when things got really fun. I say that rather sarcastically because we discovered we had a mouse or at least we hope its just one that had been helping itself to our unopened bagged cashew nuts and taking nibbles out of our potatoes. Thankfully it didn’t look like it had got into anything else but we had to throw away anything that looked like it might have had a mouse on it. We spent the rest of the day sanitizing/disinfecting all surfaces and even took an unexpected trip to the local laundromat to wash couch cushions and blankets. Thankfully this happened on our 22nd anniversary without kids to worry about or in tow so we survived the experience. We did discover mouse poop in the basement yesterday so prayers would be appreciated that we evict our unwanted visitor soon.
This is our last week here. We will be visiting with friends and staying a few days with Nate and Steph hopefully this weekend before heading to Colorado. We will land in the southern portion of the state just after the 4th July and be hanging out there for a couple of months. I am hoping to still chime in during that time with pictures and some sort of an update. “speak” again soon-
Love me.
