Return to Texas

Posted on September 4, 2024September 10, 2024 by Lou

The last couple of weeks we wrapped up our time in Colorado soaking in the scenery, enjoying the cooler temperatures especially in the mornings, the late afternoon thunderstorms bringing awesome displays of Gods power and majesty and time with our new friends. The Durango area of Colorado offered us plenty of local non chain restaurants that I love, so we ate out more often than we normally like to. T and I opted to try African style fish and chips from a local food truck and especially loved the curry style dipping sauce and the falafel breading..yum! We took a trip to Telluride one day just to have Copper experience the towns free gondola ride which was dog friendly. Call us crazy, but it really was too good of an opportunity to pass up. The drive there and back was long, but well worth the scenery we passed and the ride on the gondola was easy and not too busy even though there was a mushroom festival going on. We got a whole gondola to ourselves on the way up and back, so had plenty of room to move around and take pictures. Copper behaved so well seeming to enjoy being sat between his people. It was a lovely day with a short stop in the small mining village of Rico to partake in a sourdough donut and a couple of expensive, but worth it drinks from the local coffee shop/mercantile.

T and I are very thankful for the time we had in Colorado this Summer with the people we got to meet and serve with as well as being able to take time to explore the area. We had other plans but God knew where we needed to be.

This past week we started our way back to Texas with a two-night stop to explore Santa Fe New Mexico. There is a lot to do in that area and one full day in Santa Fe I am sure did not do it justice, but we tried to hit the main area of the old town and ate at a recommended place that the locals enjoy for lunch. Yes it was Mexican food so T was very happy and content. We definitely got our steps in that day, but glad we made a point to stop and see this old city and learn some of its history.  Next on our travels we visited the Billy the Kid Museum which was interesting, especially the video presentation you can ask to watch. The next night we made it into Texas not too road weary, but knowing we still had many hours to go to reach our destination. Our final travel day ended up being longer than we planned. We reached the next camp ground on our itinerary and realized straight away it wasn’t going to work for us. The two sites that were offered were not level and to be honest the whole place just felt wrong. We had not had to pay in advance or exchange any information so we got back on the road and decided to keep going. We were another three hours from our final destination but T said he could do it and the campground said our spot was ready. We drove through the archway of the campground after five o’clock and set up feeling relieved we didn’t have to travel the next day and could settle in to what will be our home for the next five weeks.

Our new home is near a busy road, but the campground sites are further back and I feel protected by the tiny homes and the large school house which are at the front. Sunday evening, we hit the ground running with a meet and greet and a formal introduction to the park. Monday, we headed down to the school house for their introduction and to be filled in on what is on the calendar the next few weeks. I have an opportunity to work camp while T is in class and I am thinking I will do that after this week. There are many planned activities for the plus ones who are attending, so I have been pushing myself out of my comfort zone to go and mingle. I have already learned some good information about how to better utilize a RV kitchen and also am sitting in on the business classes which are held first thing in the morning this week at seven o’clock. The time difference kicked us in the booty the first few days we were here but we all seemed to have settled in to our new routine. I am looking forward to what T is going to learn to help us with our RV and our friends etc. I will try and keep you all posted and hopefully provide some pictures of our comings and goings. So what’s been going on with all of you guys? I would love to hear from you. Until next time,

Love Lou
