The 50’s Club

Posted on February 5, 2024February 5, 2024 by Lou

Well I cant believe it but I can officially say I am part of the 50’s club! I actually feel better about hitting this mile stone than I did when I turned 40. Maybe my perspective on life in general has changed in the last 10 years, but I feel myself reflecting on those who I have known that didn’t get to see their 50th birthday and reminds me how each day is a gift. Some days, if I am honest, I don’t automatically wake up feeling like yay God thank you for the gift of another day and I should. One of my favourite hymns I like to share during a morning devotion if I dare sign up to do that within a SOWER group is “This is the Day”. The hymns words are from Psalm 118:24 and repeat the reminder that each day is another day that the Lord has made and to rejoice and be glad in it. So for my birthday this year I wanted to simply rejoice and be glad for another day. We have just moved to a new location which is closer to the beach so it only seemed fitting that is where I would find myself on my 50th birthday, walking barefoot, pesky sand between my toes, but loving every moment. I was in one of my happy places and feeling very content. T took me out for lunch to what he likes to call a “foo foo” restaurant and then on to more sight seeing and local ice cream for dessert. Surprisingly I didn’t take any pictures of food, but none of the cuisine disappointed! I finished the day off playing a card game online with C, Y and T while talking to them on the phone. We like to banter back and forth (trash talk) while playing, which adds some fun to our time together. T and I started doing this with C and N a few months ago so it was nice to have Y join in this time. I heard from family and friends so really there’s nothing else I could have asked for. I am so thankful for another day. I pray that I will be open to every opportunity God puts in front of me this year and not hold myself back in fear. Yesterday we heard a good sermon at the church we will be attending for the next several weeks. The pastor finished with reading the following hymn and I wanted to share it with you all.

God Moves in a Mysterious Way- Author William Cowper

“1. God moves in a mysterious way
His wonders to perform;
He plants His footsteps in the sea
and rides upon the storm.

2. Deep in unfathomable mines
of never-failing skill;
He treasures up His bright designs,
and works His sov’reign will.

3. Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take;
the clouds ye so much dread
are big with mercy and shall break
in blessings on your head.

4. Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,
but trust Him for His grace;
behind a frowning providence
He hides a smiling face.

5. His purposes will ripen fast,
unfolding every hour;
the bud may have a bitter taste,
but sweet will be the flow’r.

6. Blind unbelief is sure to err,
and scan His work in vain;
God is His own interpreter,
and He will make it plain.”

I used to have this song on repeat many years ago after it was referenced in a bible study I was doing, so the words struck me again when the pastor was reading. God truly does move in mysterious ways! Sometimes we don’t understand or even see that he is moving, but every day he is orchestrating so many things behind the scenes, He just asks us to trust.

On our week off we explored the area and came across a gem of a state park called Highland Hammock. Beautiful variety of trees. Real feel of Florida and what it has to offer.
There was a possibility of alligators in the water so had to leave Copper in the truck to do this quick hike through the swamp.
A view from the Cypress Swamp trail boardwalk.

Beachy birthday vibes
We discovered a new critter along another hike we took in between lunch and dessert. Meet the Mangrove Tree crab. He had a lot of friends on multiply trees. We found them all to be very camera shy. It was a challenge to get this pic.
Some random stealth like boat that caught our attention and had to wait to get a picture of as it slowly came by.
I nearly forgot our quick trip to Tampa to see the manatees!
